Enrique Tarrio's race and parents' ethnicity is an Afro-Cuban. He was born and raised in Little Havana, Miami, Florida.
His father was a mechanic who worked on cars. His mother, Zunt Duarte, worked in logistics for imports and exports. They divorced in 1992 when their son was eight years old.
His mother immigrated to the United States from Cuba and gave birth to their son. In an interview, she said that her son was a regular kid, and he got into politics through his aunt Zaida Nuñez who was a campaign profiler for Republicans.

She also shared that she had never been interested in politics, but his father's side held some kind of ideology and often talked about it. So Enrique, who is called Henry at home, dropped out of school and started selling automobile parts with the ambition of owning a business.
