Dhoom completed its 12th anniversary recently. We bring you reasons why it became such a huge phenomenon
1) Yash Raj have always been known for making romances and family dramas and an out-and-out action film from their stable was a new thing for the viewers, who greedily lapped it up.
2) Fast bikes, fast babes and a cool villain. This straight out of James Bond combo too was a cool new thing for the masses. The superbike market in India got a huge jolt thanks to the film. Suddenly, everyone wanted to own a Hayabusa. The bikes used in the film were the Suzuki Hayabusa (1300cc), the Suzuki GSX-R600 (600cc) and the Suzuki Bandit (1200cc).
3)John Abraham may have been the villain but got the most whistles. His ripped abs and tattoos were much admired. You wanted him to escape and in fact, people hoped that he somehow survived driving off a cliff in the end and would definitely make an entry in the sequel. That started off the tradition of casting A grade actors as super villains, with Hrithik Roshan and then Aamir Khan reprising the roles in the subsequent sequels.
4) Bromance between Jai and Ali, aka Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, had shades of the cult Jai-Veeru friendship from Sholay and the viewers liked their banter as well as camaraderie.
5) Dhoom machale, the theme song, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and composed by Pritam was also something new for a Yash Raj film and that too got clicked and created a frenzy. It still remains a hit over the disco circuit.
