Farhan Akhtar has announced that he plans to continue the legacy of Don with a new actor taking on the iconic roles played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. In 2006, Farhan remade the 1978 film Don and went on to create a franchise with a sequel in 2011. The role played by Pran in the original was taken on by Arjun Rampal in the remake.
During a recent interview, Arjun responded to the news about Ranveer taking on the role of the new Don. Arjun said that just like Bourne Ultimatum or James Bond, Don is also a franchise. Now, the responsibility has been passed on to Ranveer, who Arjun believes is a phenomenal actor. Arjun also expressed his good wishes for Ranveer and believes that he will give his utmost effort in the role.
Priyanka Chopra was cast opposite Shah Rukh in the franchise, but the identity of the new actor who will star opposite Ranveer has not yet been revealed.   Following the official announcement of Don's new lead actor, Ranveer wrote a lengthy note on Instagram expressing his excitement about fulfilling his childhood aspiration and requested the audience to provide him with a chance to demonstrate his capabilities. He wrote, “As a child, I fell in love with the movies, and like the rest of us, watching and worshipping Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan - the two G.O.A.Ts of Hindi Cinema. Taking their legacy forward is a manifestation of my childhood dream. I understand what a great responsibility it is to be a part of the ‘Don’ dynasty. I hope the audience gives me a chance and showers me with love, the way they have for numerous characters over the past so many years.”
